Thanks for the great advice. Too often in the past I have thought of my social interactions and business interactions as separate - evaluating individuals on a personal level instead of thinking about how they could potentially help my business. I see now that I need to synthesize my social and business interactions to utilize all available resources...and then maintain them with the 24 hour rule. Thanks again!

This is excellent advice. As a novice entrepreneur, I had no idea how crucial networking is before getting my hands dirty in my first startup. Networking, as a concept, is too often described and too little understood. I think you nailed it here.

Nice work on this web site. I am a serial just moving back into CEO position after several years running a seed stage VC firm.

One of the stories I share with entrepreneurs is that in the mid 1990s before the dot com bubble I was launching one of the first Internet era incubators- a spin out of our then consulting firm. I had replied myself to thousands of entrepreneurs, and our first effort was one of the leading small business networks.

I found myself needing my own advice, so one day when I came across Les Vadasz in a non profit, I simply emailed him with a question about our business. He promptly replied, a relationship was built over time, and he's been one of my most important mentors ever since. Now he's never invested a dime in any of my ventures, but he's been totally gracious with his time and wisdom. Now retired to his vineyard so not taking any new entrepreneurs, but my advice to entrepreneurs is to handle yourself well, seek out strong mentors, and don't be afraid to ask for help.
